Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

With so many gaming consoles out on the market, and at different price ranges, it can be tough to pick one out. This is even more difficult, considering that certain game systems may only appeal to certain people. But by analyzing what each game system has to offer, you can make an educated decision with ease.

The Xbox 360 is among the highest selling game consoles, thanks to its competitive pricing and its wide support. The Xbox 360 did have a bit of trouble with faulty systems breaking down, but it seems that Microsoft has started to improve Xbox designs and cut down on the percent of failures. So long as you decide to get a new model, you should be fine.

If you don’t mind paying a little bit more than the Xbox 360, you can obtain a PS3. The PS3, also known as the PlayStation 3, is a Sony product that has neat features such as the ability to play Blu-ray DVD discs. In addition, the PS3 has many games that other consoles don’t have, thanks to exclusive agreements to video game developers. Unlike Xbox Live, PS3 owners won’t have to pay for online play.

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

When planning a wedding shower or bridal shower, the idea of party favors can often be confusing. Are they necessary or not? Bridal shower favors don’t make sense to some people, since the guests are there to give gifts to the bride, not to receive. However, small wedding shower favors can be a nice token of appreciation for a bride’s closest friends. Some consider wedding shower favors to be absolutely necessary, while others see no need. In the end, it is a personal decision, though if you’re unsure what the general custom is, giving out small bridal shower favors is probably a good idea to avoid offending any shower attendees.

The maid-of-honor is usually responsible for the planning of the bridal shower, which is a special party for the bride with close friends who give gifts. The standard wedding shower is for women only, although some couples take a more modern approach and prefer wedding showers for the couple and with any friends allowed to attend. The type of wedding shower preferred may determine many of the details of the shower, including the wedding shower favors. While this must be taken into consideration, most wedding showers take the traditional approach and focus on the bride. The bridal shower favors and theme will reflect this exclusively-female nature of the party.

Mama Mia! Mother’s Day!

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Who doesn’t love Mama? Well, the second Sunday in May is reserved for that special lady, you know, the one who gave birth to you. The trials and travails your mother had to endure to get you to where you are today are certainly worth one day out of your life. Take the time to tell or show her how much her sacrifices have meant to you.

Though it is a legislated day, by act of Congress, the origins of Mothers Day may be found in the Catholic observance of “Mothering Sunday.” The first so-called modern observance of the day was May 13, 1877, and since then, Mother’s Day has become associated with gift giving, brunch, and a general “day off” for mothers in the United States and Canada alike. After all, Canadians love their mothers too.

The bottom line is, visit your mother or give her a call at the very least. It will make her day, ironically. Better yet, take her to brunch, spend the day with her and if you can’t stand her, take her to a movie. A small trinket of your appreciation would be a nice touch.
