The Various Uses Of Airsoft Guns

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

Buying the right airsoft gun depends largely on what it is going to be used for, whether it is for shooting targets, holding airsoft wars in your backyard, or participating in organized team combats. Below are some tips on which airsoft guns best suit which activities.

Speed and versatility are not necessary airsoft gun characteristics when simply shooting targets (also known as “plinking”). In fact, a cheap, low maintenance spring pistol will do just fine for this type of activity. You can get away with buying a pistol based on how attractive you find it when you’re not using it for anything other than plinking.

Friendly games like skirmishes and backyard wars warrant airsoft guns that have a higher firing rate than spring pistols. For something like forty dollars, you can acquire a spring shotgun that will fire the pellets as fast as you can fire them, making them the most affordable purchase for this type of use.

The automatic electric gun (AEG) has an even faster firing rate than the shotgun and is relatively more expensive. The rounds per minute (RPM) of AEGs are comparable to those of actual assault rifles and can accommodate sniping as well as rapid fire. Aside from the actual gun being more expensive than other models, it can be costly using AEGs as you go through far more pellets in an average session.

Airsoft Guns: What Are They?

Friday, February 12th, 2010

The word gun makes a lot of people cringe these days. Guns are typically used as weapons in battle or for the sport of hunting and some are just for recreational purposes such as target practicing. There are many real firearms that have become collectable. Airsoft guns are toy guns modeled after the real firearms.

Airsoft guns are for recreational purposes only. They are designed after firearms however they do not shot regular bullets; they expel pellets usually made from a soft metal such as cooper or plastic. The pellets are driven from the gun by either a spring or compressed gas such as carbon dioxide or propane. Traditional firearms expel bullets which are usually made up of lead and some sort of explosive material which creates a fire or explosion propelling the bullet out of the barrel.

Airsoft guns should not be treated as toys. Someone using the recreational gun should be at least 16 years of age and taught proper handling techniques. There are some recreational sites that require airsoft users to be 18 years of age. Airsoft guns are usually harmless but protective gear is highly suggested. The pellets usually will not penetrate the skin however at certain velocities and distances it could especially if the pellets are made of a soft metal.

Should Parents Allow Their Children To Play With Airsoft Guns?

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

A lot of parents strongly disagree with getting their children airsoft guns. However, many parents do not understand that airsoft guns are actually extremely safe for children to play with.

Airsoft usage is probably one of the safest means that children can use guns today. However, there are still many people that wish that airsoft guns were simply banned. Before you come to an assumption about the guns, it helps to have a little background knowledge about the guns.

Airsoft guns are toy guns that resemble to real thing. They shoot off a series of pellets that fly about 25m to 45 m in distance. The guns are nothing like the old BB guns that many people are accustomed to. Many of the risks of the BB guns have been cut out with the production of the airsoft guns.

The guns have been around for a series of 30 years, so inadvertently they are not as new as many people avidly presume them to be. The guns are designed for a plethora of recreational activities which include paintball, target practice and even war simulation games.

Airsoft Guns: Not Just For Play

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

The modern world is filled with movies and games that involve gunplay. While it may not be the healthiest things for young kids to watch, older ones have enough understanding to play out movie and gaming fantasies in many ways. One such way in which this is done is with airsoft guns.

Airsoft guns are replicas of real guns, and they make use of plastic pellets as ammunition. They are designed so as to give realistic action, and most of them actually imitate the recoil action, or blowback, that one experiences when handling a real gun. Practically every gun out there has an airsoft version of it made. So there are airsoft pistols, sniper rifles, machine guns, automatic and semiautomatic rifles and shotguns.

You’d be mistaken to classify airsoft guns as just toys. The pellets they use as bullets are made of plastic and they are too soft and travel to slow to puncture the skin. However, there are still risks as they can lead to eye injuries. While they aren’t dangerous enough to hurt or kill someone, they shouldn’t be considered completely safe, so eye goggles should be worn when using them.

Airsoft Guns And The Technology

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Airsoft guns were designed because of need that was recognized by manufacturers. The need was in Japan, back in the 1970s. One could not own a firearm as it was illegal. So, manufacturers designed the airsoft gun. They incorporated knock-off military design with plastic BBs for ammunition. The ammunition is considered safe as the plastic BBs will not penetrate the skin.

The first airsoft guns were spring-powered, single-shot weapons. After each shot, one would have to physically pull a lever, bolt, or other form of mechanism to reload the chamber with more ammunition. This makes the shooting process slow. The guns are cheap to purchase and you can be sure that they will always work. They do not rely upon any outside power source.

As with anything else, new technology was developed and then incorporated into the design of the airsoft guns. Next, electric-powered and gas-powered guns were developed. The electric-powered gun was operated by an electric motor that used batteries. The disadvantage to this gun was if the batteries were to go dead the gun would no longer work. It did come in semi-automatic and automatic versions, which made it more likable than the single-shot, spring-powered relative that was developed first.

Airsoft Guns Are Adult Size Toys That Look Real.

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Airsoft guns are air powered replicas of real guns. These guns were originally created in China, were the government had made fire-arms illegal and citizens still wanted to collect them. Manufacturers stepped forward and provided the first airsoft guns to these Chinese citizens who desired guns but could not get their hands on the real things. These first guns worked similar to American made BB guns in that they used pellets (plastic BB’s). In time all of these guns were standardized to carry a particular millimeter pellet.

These weapons eventually were adapted to include guns that were powered by gas or battery and as these guns became more and more popular a sport developed. This sport simply known as airsoft is basically a big boy version of Cowboy and Indians or capture the flag. This hobby eventually traveled across the ocean to the United States and became popular there as well.

While they are mostly manufactured in Asia airsoft guns are available in all parts of the world. However regulation has made it necessary within the United States for any airsoft firearms to have a distinguishing orange mark or cap on them. This is so that they are easily identifiable and can be distinguished from the real thing.

Airsoft Guns Are Replacing Paintball Guns In Recreational War Games

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

Airsoft guns are the newest thing in military game play. Many people have switched from paintball guns to airsoft guns. These guns look as realistic as the actual guns that they were modeled after. They shoot plastic pellets that range from 6 to 8mm. Using these types of guns can be relatively harmless, as long as the operating guidelines and safety precautions are followed.

Before purchasing or operating a gun, you should be aware of the laws of the state or country that you are playing in. There is not a place in the world that will require you to obtain a license to operate these guns. However, there are often age requirements to buy a gun. Laws will vary from one jurisdiction to another, so be sure to know what they are.

If you own an airsoft gun in the United States know that you will have to paint the barrel of the gun orange. This will help law enforcement determine whether the gun is real or not. An average citizen probably will not know what the orange barrel means and can easily be mistaken for the real thing. So, when out in public it is best to have to in a case. For your child’s safety, you should always lock up these guns the same way you would if the gun is real.
