When Nintendo launched the Wii console way back in 2006, it really was a fairly radical departure from the normal marketing strategies employed in the computer games industry. Even allowing for the fact that the market is accustomed to change at a rapid pace, the Wii was still a significant new development. Instead of following the usual route map of bringing out a new, more powerful, faster console with upgraded graphics, Nintendo introduced a whole new aspect to gaming as a result of the Wii’s control system.
The Wii operates by using a hand held, wireless, motion sensitive controller which can detect motion in all directions. Instead of tapping buttons on a D-pad or manipulating a joystick, gamers wave their hands around, gesture and point using the wireless remote – known as the Wii-mote. It results in a much more intuitive interaction with the game which is different from other consoles.
It really is very easy to pick up game play on the Wii – even adults seem able to do it. If you don’t know what to do then just flail your arms around a bit more and see if anything happens. It’s probably one of the chief reasons why the Wii is popular across a wide range of ages – more so than other consoles.

In the past two years, there has been brutal opposition among video gaming consoles. Among the many aspects through this battle is definitely deciding what gaming console provides the most inventive and also powerful game controller.
Thanks to this competition, Microsoft revealed its Project Natal for Xbox at last year’s E3 computer game conference. It has been launched to take on Nintendo’s Wii revolutionary movement sensor control system. Even so, Microsoft may deny that but people believe that it’s inspired from Wii’s system and it is meant to be a direct competitor of Wii.
Playstation’s Eyetoy may perhaps come to mind when you learn about Project Natal due to the fact Eyetoy is basically a motion capturing digicam like Project Natal. However the 3D abilities of Project Natal really are significantly above those of Eyetoy. The gameplay results in being controller-less with the help of Project Natal on Xbox. Microsoft thinks that this element would certainly entice a lot more customers who are unfamiliar with the gamer community simply because they don’t have to figure out how to use a controller whilst playing the video games on Xbox.

Electronic book readers have been available for quite some time now. The Franklin eBookman is generally considered to have been the first and launched in 1999, over a decade ago. Other readers slowly appeared – the Sony PRS launched in 2006 and the first Amazon Kindle hit the streets in November of 2007.
However, it wasn’t until 2009 that the popularity of e-book readers really rocketed. Amazon were very instrumental in this – the February launch of the Kindle 2.0, followed shortly after by the launch of the larger DX version in June produced a storm of publicity around e-book readers in general and the Kindle in particular. E-book readers were in the news, they were the hot, “must have” gadget of 2009. The Kindle reader quickly became the top selling product on Amazon and, during the 2009 festive gift giving bonanza, became Amazon’s “most gifted” product ever. Both Sony and Barnes and Noble had a good tilt at the Xmas sales by releasing their own new readers – but an inability to guarantee delivery in time for the big day coupled with the Kindle’s well established brand presence, meant that Amazon cleaned up at Christmas.

The Amazon Kindle e-book reader has proven itself to be the perfect product for Amazon. Considering that Amazon has such a strong association with both books and electronics the Kindle is a great fit for the Amazon business model.
In 2009, e-book readers in general, and the Kindle in particular, became the trendiest personal electronics gadgets on the market. There is no sign that sales of these devices will slow any in 2010 – if anything, the speed of adoption seems to be increasing.
At the moment, the Kindle is the leader of the pack. It currently has a 60% share of the U.S. e-book reader market. Sony is in second place with a creditable 35% share. There are a whole host of competitors who have now developed their own e-book readers in order to get a piece of the action in what looks like being a large and profitable market.
In a way, it’s a back-handed compliment to Amazon that almost every new e-book reader that shows any promise is instantly given the title of the “Kindle Killer”. However, bearing in mind that the Kindle is now Amazon’s number one selling product, you can be sure that Amazon will be fighting tooth and nail to see off challengers for the top slot.

2009 was the year that e-book readers became hot news. Amazon released both the Kindle 2.0 and the Kindle DX, which created quite a bit of publicity for e-book readers in general and the Kindle reader in particular. Companies like Sony and Barnes and Noble responded with their own readers – the Daily Edition and The Nook – whilst others, such as Apple and Microsoft worked hard to develop their own offerings for release in the near future.
It is very easy, and perfectly understandable, when dealing with what are essentially consumer electronics devices, to focus on the technical aspects of the hardware involved. The Amazon Kindle has wireless connectivity, the Nook has a color screen, Sony’s Daily Edition lets you lend books to your friends – and so on.
However, it may be worth considering that e-book readers may very possibly be the biggest thing to happen to reading – and publishing – since the invention of the printing press by Gutenberg in 1440. The invention of the printing press allowed books to be mass produced on paper instead of parchment or vellum. It reduced the cost of books and, quite literally, put them in the hands of the common man.

For the first time ever, the organisers of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), being held in Las Vegas, have set aside a dedicated area for e-book readers. Not without some justification – there are at least two dozen different companies showcasing e-book readers at the event.
The increased level of awareness, both on the part of electronics manufacturers and the public, is quite understandable. 2009 was a great year for e-book readers and all the signs seem to point to 2010 being even more successful.
Much of the credit for this must, without a doubt, go the Amazon Kindle reader. The launch of Amazon’s Kindle 2.0 in February, rapidly followed by the release of the large format Kindle DX just a few months later in June, garnered a huge amount of publicity for e-book readers in general and the Kindle in particular.
The Kindle quickly went on to become Amazon’s number one selling product and, during the festive season of 2009, the Kindle became Amazon’s most gifted product ever. Sales of Kindle books made up 35% of all book sales (where a Kindle edition existed). On Christmas day 2009, for the first time ever, Amazon sold more Kindle books than traditional books.
